🧑‍🌾 What’s One Small Step Your Garden Needs?

Big garden goals can be exciting. They can also start to feel overwhelming when you’re trying to figure out how to get from where you are now to where you want to be.

But you don’t have to accomplish the whole goal at once.

In this week’s blog, we’re exploring a gentler approach: breaking a larger garden goal into small, manageable steps you can take week by week.

Whether your next step is planting, planning, researching, or simply learning something new, a little focused attention each week can add up to meaningful progress.

💧 How Often Should You Water? It Depends...

There’s no magic number for how often you should water your garden. One of the biggest factors is something surprisingly simple: how old your plants are.

In this lesson from the GYOV archives, learn how watering needs change from seeds to seedlings to established plants, which crops can get by with less water, and a common mulching mistake that can leave the soil underneath surprisingly dry.

As summer winds down, it can feel like the gardening season is winding down with it.

But your garden doesn’t necessarily have to stop just because colder weather is coming.

Winter gardening can look very different from summer gardening. Plants grow more slowly, different crops take center stage, and sometimes keeping your garden going is as simple as protecting one small bed or growing a few greens indoors.

And you don’t need a greenhouse to do it. Cold frames, temporary coverings, containers, and indoor growing can all be part of extending your season.

In this week’s blog, we’re exploring some simple ways to keep fresh food growing beyond summer. You’ll also find Stacey’s Keep Growing masterclass where she goes deeper into crops, timing, protection methods, and indoor growing.

Here’s to discovering what your garden can do in a new season,

Think winter gardening means you need a greenhouse and a whole new garden plan? This week’s Sunday Garden Comic might change your mind. 😊

That’s something we’ve never included with our Winter Gardening Course before.

🌱 Create Your Winter Garden Action Plan

A LIVE Action Planning Session with Stacey Murphy
October 8 at 4 PM PT / 7 PM ET

When you enroll in Winter Gardening through this special Thriving Gardener offer, you’re invited to join Stacey for this live session at no additional cost.

>> Get Winter Gardening + Claim Your LIVE Planning Session

Here’s how it works:

First, you’ll get immediate access to the Winter Gardening Course.

Over the next couple of weeks, explore the lessons that are most relevant to your climate, growing space, and what you’d like to grow.

Take some notes. Think about what you'd like your fall and winter garden to look like. Write down the questions that come up.

Then on October 8, bring all of that to Stacey.

She’ll help you think through things like what makes sense to grow in your situation, which season-extension methods might work for you, indoor versus outdoor growing, timing, and your next steps.

The goal is simple:

Learn what’s possible. Then make it work in your garden.

Can’t be there live? You can still participate! You’ll have an opportunity to submit your garden situation and question ahead of time for Stacey to address during the session, and you’ll receive access to the replay.

And you get the complete Winter Gardening Course.

You'll learn about growing outdoors in cooler weather, choosing winter crops, season-extension methods, indoor growing setups, sprouts and microgreens, seed starting, and more.

We’re keeping the live session small so Stacey has time to address individual garden situations and questions, and spots are limited.

>> YES! I WANT TO CREATE MY WINTER GARDEN ACTION PLAN

We’d love to see what you decide to grow this winter. 🌱

To your thriving garden,

🌱 The Grow Your Own Vegetables Team 🌱

P.S. The masterclass replay to Keep Growing: Simple Ways to Extend Your Garden Season is still available too. If you haven’t watched it yet, you can start there and see what might be possible in your garden this fall and winter.
