🌱 Grow Your Own Vegetables Team 🌱
P.S. One of the gardeners joining us recently celebrated her very first vegetable plant after dreaming about growing food for decades. Sometimes the most exciting part of gardening is simply getting started!

Went out to check my garden after the frost we've had and amazingly some stuff did survive.
Tomatoes are about done for but peppers right next to them only lost about half (bell) the hot peppers only lost about a third if that and the green beans. which are usually very tender to frost only lost about a third also
So here's what I picked today

These who knows what kind peppers are pleasantly hot but thin walled NOT like hot Banana Peppers I ordered  but they sure did produce well

Hi Jimi,

What happens when gardeners from across the country (and around the world!) come together to share what they're growing, what they're learning, and the joy of growing their own food?

Something pretty wonderful! 💚

We just hosted The Homegrown Life: Plant. Grow. Thrive., a special LIVE gathering with eal garden tours, practical growing lessons, Q&A with Stacey Murphy, and plenty of encouragement from fellow gardeners.

And even though you weren't there live, we'd love to invite you to enjoy the free replay!

>> Come Experience The Homegrown Life

Here's a little of what you'll experience:

🌱 Why making mistakes can actually help you become a better gardener.
🥕 How healthy soil, compost, and watering work together to support more productive gardens.
🧑‍🌾 Step inside Lisa's and Lorraine's real vegetable gardens and see what they've been growing, experimenting with, and learning along the way.
💚 Meet Nancy and Elaine, whose stories remind us that you can start right where you are and grow more when you're ready.

And one of our favorite parts? The wonderful community that came together.

One attendee summed it up beautifully: “I love that we motivate each other in gardening”

Whether you're just getting started or hoping for more abundant harvests next season, there's something here for you.

>> Enjoy The Homegrown Life Replay

The replay is only available through Friday, October 23 at 11:59 PM Pacific.

🏡 Real Gardens, Real Gardeners: Meet Lisa!
Real Gardener Lisa
What can you learn from a gardener who's only in her second year of growing food? Quite a lot, actually!

Meet Lisa from Cleveland, Ohio, whose garden produced more cucumbers and squash than she ever expected, along with a few surprises and lessons along the way.

She discovered that some plants need more room than she gave them, that trellising could make a big difference, and that not every harvest turns out exactly as planned.

But perhaps her biggest lesson was this: “Every season is a learning experience.”

We shared a short visit to Lisa's garden during The Homegrown Life this week. Now we're inviting you to enjoy her full garden tour, where she shares her successes, challenges, and why she's more excited than ever to keep growing.

🌿 What Can Your Soil Tell You? More Than You Think!

Have you ever picked up a handful of garden soil and wondered what it could tell you?

The way your soil feels can reveal important clues about how it holds moisture, drains water, and supports your plants. Is it gritty, silky, or sticky?

Each texture has a story to tell! In this week's featured article, discover how to use your hands to get to know your soil better, with a simple video demonstration to help you along the way.
🧑‍🌾 This Week's Garden Challenge

Find two spots in your garden, or two different containers, and feel the soil in each. Does one crumble easily while the other sticks together? Is one noticeably wetter or grittier?

Notice the differences and think about what they might mean for your plants.

Sometimes becoming a better gardener starts with simply paying attention!

🫑 Garden to Table: Easy Stuffed Peppers

Easy Stuffed Peppers
One of the joys of growing your own food is finding delicious ways to enjoy the harvest!

This week, Grow Your Own Vegetables’ CEO Denise Beins is sharing a simple twist on stuffed bell peppers.

Denise shares "I recently made stuffed peppers using a recipe I found online, but I took a few shortcuts! I added about ¼ cup of cooked quinoa and used roughly ½ cup of leftover spaghetti sauce instead of making the tomato mixture from scratch. My sauce had ground beef, but you could easily use your favorite spaghetti sauce, including a plant-based version.

One thing I'd do differently next time? My peppers were still a little crunchier than I prefer, so I'll try boiling them for about 5 minutes before stuffing and baking.

It's a great reminder that cooking with your garden harvest doesn't have to be complicated. Sometimes it's just about using what you have!"

As you head into the weekend, remember that gardening isn't about getting everything right. It's about being curious, trying new things, and enjoying what you learn along the way.

Whether you're tending your soil, planning your next growing season, or cooking something delicious from your harvest, we hope you find a little joy in the process.

Happy Gardening!
