I saw something about Tomcat repellent granules that use essential oils, peppermint, cinnamon and garlic, to deter the critters if you sprinkle it around your plants, and it isn't poisonous. It says safe for kids and pets.

I'll have to try some of those, I have a fresh quart of Castile (peppermint flavor) that I use on bugs and plenty of garlic and cinnamon
