Good Old Times

1950s: Pastel yellow cabinets, rounded refrigerators, and bright red cookware gave this vintage kitchen its distinctive mid-century look. The colorful décor and matching appliances capture the style of American kitchens of the era. Would you bring this kitchen back?

Yup, this what Grandmother used. Hadn't thought of this until now. A good memory :)

I remember trying this puffed rice - tasted like cardboard. I think Dad put it out for the birds.
Probably tasted like those puffed rice coasters that were sold as food items for a while. No nutritional value or even calories for your money.

Before Jake and Elwood Blues, there were two friends swapping records.
Dan Aykroyd loved the blues. John Belushi was more into hard rock.
When they met in Toronto in the early 1970s, Aykroyd introduced Belushi to the Downchild Blues Band and opened his ears to a whole different sound.
Dan later recalled telling John, “You show me heavy metal and I’ll show you the blues.”
By 1978, they were bringing that shared passion to Saturday Night Live. On April 22, the Blues Brothers made their official SNL debut.
Two years later came The Blues Brothers (1980), with Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, James Brown and John Lee Hooker.
What began with two comedians sharing music became a legendary act. And behind the dark suits, sunglasses and comedy was a genuine love for the blues.
Belushi and Aykroyd had something special. Nobody quite like them.
Who still watches The Blues Brothers whenever it’s on?

The day Gazoo crash-landed on The Flintstones.

61 years ago today, October 29, 1965, ABC aired "The Great Gazoo," the episode of The Flintstones that introduced the tiny green alien voiced by Harvey Korman.

Gazoo was a Zetoxian exiled to Earth as punishment for inventing a doomsday device. He arrived in a flying saucer that crashed near Fred and Barney, and from then on he used his magic powers to "help" them, usually making things worse. Only Fred, Barney, the children and animals could see him, and he called Fred and Barney "dum-dums."

Writer Joanna Lee is credited with creating the character, and Gazoo appeared in 11 episodes during the show's sixth and final season. The Flintstones, which premiered September 30, 1960, aired its final episode April 1, 1966. Alan Cumming later played Gazoo in the 2000 film The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas.

1956 Alka-Seltzer Halloween jack-o’-lantern ad
🎃

Circa 1956, Alka-Seltzer brought a little nostalgia to Halloween, showing a family carving a jack-o’-lantern together. The message was simple: feeling good meant having more time to enjoy life's little pleasures.

WAIT… THEY PUT WHAT ON CHRISTMAS TREES?!
Believe it or not, years ago some artificial Christmas snow was actually made from ASBESTOS!
😳

It was sold as a fireproof decoration for Christmas trees and holiday displays. Back then, people didn’t fully understand the dangers.
Just look at this old box!
🎄

❤️
WHO REMEMBERS THIS?
Did your family sprinkle artificial snow on the Christmas tree, around the windows, or under Christmas decorations?
🎄
Was it the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s, or later?
Tell us what you remember! I’m curious how many families had this Christmas tradition.
❤️
