Her/him: Is that a vape?

Me: Yes. I quit smoking by vaping.

Her/him: Isn't it just as bad for you? You should only breathe air.

Me: Stand by your window with the sun streaming in, look at all the dust and flotsam floating in the air and ask yourself if you EVER breathe pure air. Go outside and add to that the pollen, automobile particulates and leafblower filth.

Her/him: No point in sucking a bunch of chemicals into your lungs.

Me: Do you know what is in the vapor?

Her/him: No

Me: It has PG, which is used in asthma inhalers and other inhaled medications for lung disease. It has VG, vegetable glycerin which has many internal medical applications. Both PG and VG are used in bath/body products too, and in foods. Vape liquid has pure pharmaceutical grade liquid nicotine, which is just a mild stimulant with similar effects to those of caffeine.

I go on to explain that vaping helped me stop smoking entirely, that other smoking cessation methods rarely work for people, that pharmaceutical drugs for smoking cessation are often deadly.

As for the debate, if someone gives you lip, they want a response, and if you can't change someone's mind, then you have tried, and it's all you can do. Nobody else will do it, not the FDA, not the mainstream media, not the pharmaceutical industry, not the corner pharmacy, and if a vape shop tries to promote vaping as a smoking cessation method they stand to receive a "cease and desist" letter from the FDA.

It's insane how many countries have made vaping illegal, while smoking there is still perfectly legal. We live in an upside down backward world, but we try to educate people when the opportunity arises.
