Have you ever had someone nod along in your sessions, then go home and not follow through?

It’s frustrating.

One of the most powerful benefits of nutrigenomics is that it gives people a personal “aha moment.” When they see their genetics on paper, suddenly your recommendations aren’t abstract - they’re personal.

For example, People with MTHFR variants may not use folate and B12 efficiently. Showing them how diet and lifestyle can bypass that bottleneck makes your advice tangible, and motivates action.

That’s just one of the ways genetics make your plans more effective.

In the Genes to Action: The Nutrigenomics Clinical Strategy Workshop, I’ll show you how to use DNA not just for personalization, but also as a motivational tool that helps people stick with your recommendations and see real results.

See you there,

For years, "healthy dessert" meant one thing: take something delicious and start removing bits of it. Less sugar. Less butter. Less of whatever made it worth eating in the first place, until you're left with something that's technically fine but nobody actually wants seconds of.

I don't think that's the right way to think about it anymore.

A dessert can be good for you not because of what's missing, but because of what it's actively doing once it reaches your gut. And once I started looking at it that way, I realised some of my favourite ingredients had been quietly doing gut-healthy work the whole time.

Take the 30 plants a week rule. People who eat 30 or more different plant foods a week have measurably more diverse gut microbiomes than people eating fewer than 10. A dessert with oats, walnuts, figs, and berries in a single sitting is doing more for that number than it looks like on the plate.

Or cacao. In controlled trials it’s behaved almost like a prebiotic, increasing beneficial bacteria like Bifidobacterium while suppressing the less favourable ones. Not bad for something that already tastes like a treat.

And cooled sweet potato smuggles resistant starch past your small intestine entirely, straight down to your colon where your bacteria ferment it into the short-chain fatty acids your gut lining actually runs on.

There's also one fruit that's been specifically studied in clinical trials for bloating and constipation relief. It's not the one most people would guess. (It's in the recipes.)

I've put together seven desserts built around exactly this: cacao, walnuts, figs, cooled sweet potato, whole-fruit chia jam, and more. Each one chosen because of what it does once it's in you, not just what it leaves out. Full recipes on the site now.

This Week's Recipe: Dark Chocolate Bark with Pistachios, Dried Figs & Sea Salt

This one feels like a proper treat, and it's doing more than it looks like. Dark chocolate (85%+) is rich in polyphenols that feed Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus, two of your gut's most important bacterial strains. The dried figs bring calcium and boron alongside prebiotic fiber. And the pistachios add a satisfying crunch alongside fibre and polyphenols that research suggests may support beneficial shifts in gut bacteria, particularly butyrate-producing strains. Break it into pieces and keep it in the fridge for when the 3pm craving hits.
