How can we get the most nourishment from our mushrooms?

Mimi Prunella’s answer is simple: slow down.

In her latest blog post, Mimi talks about how she weaves shiitake medicine into her daily life: from growing the mushrooms on inoculated logs, to letting them rest in the sun, to simmering them in a creamy amber broth that becomes a daily remedy.

And there’s good reason to give these mushrooms a little extra time and attention.

Shiitakes contain polysaccharides that support immune function, and when they’re exposed to sunlight, they can become a rich source of vitamin D. They also provide a variety of vitamins and minerals our bodies need. How cool!

Mimi’s broth is a simple way to enjoy all of this nourishment. And once you’ve simmered your mushrooms, you can use them in all kinds of dishes: from stir-fries and soups to mushrooms served with a delicious sauce.

Whatever you do with your shiitakes, I hope this blog post encourages you to slow down and savor their rich flavor and texture, letting it slowly nourish and energize your body.

Hi Jimi,
A century ago, type 2 diabetes was almost unheard of in the Marshall Islands. After World War II, imported foods like Spam, white rice, and sugary drinks replaced the traditional diet, and within decades, the Marshall Islands had one of the highest diabetes rates in the world.
Registered dietitian Brenda Davis helped lead a clinical trial there to see if whole plant foods could turn that around. In the intervention group, blood glucose dropped an average of 75 points within the first 2 weeks. By 12 weeks, average A1C had fallen by 2 full points, and 1 in 4 participants who started with an A1C below 9 reached full remission.
Brenda was stunned by how fast people improved. As some participants described it, pain they'd lived with for years eased within days, and brain fog that had lingered for a decade began to lift.
Brenda teaches the science and the food approach behind that trial in a free masterclass that she and I created together.

Hi Jimi, here's a familiar belief espoused by medical professionals and health advocates around the world:

“If you want to avoid Type 2 diabetes, avoid all forms of sugar. (And all carbs while you’re at it.)”

However, this approach is dangerously misguided.

And you need and deserve to know what the research says about the foods that actually cause diabetes and prediabetes...

>> Before your next grocery trip, be sure you check out the Tackling Type 2 Masterclass.

It’s free, I can assure you this one is a serious "game-changer" if you or a loved one has diabetes...

And it's hosted by award-winning diabetes expert Brenda Davis, RD, and my good friend Ocean Robbins from Food Revolution Network.

You’ll learn:

 • The so-called “health foods” that actually increase your risk for Type 2 diabetes (make sure you aren’t eating any of these now)

 • Powerful foods that can prevent and reverse Type 2 diabetes (YES, certain kinds of fruit are on the list)
 • 10 big diabetes breakthroughs that are so new, most doctors don’t know about them yet

 • And MUCH more!

Hi Jimi,

Two people can be the same age… yet one feels decades older than the other. Why?

It may have less to do with their birth year than what's happening inside their bodies.

Scientists are uncovering fascinating connections between the gut microbiome, chronic inflammation, and how we age.

And one of the most intriguing parts?

Your everyday food choices help influence this process.

That’s why I am sharing this powerful eBook with you called, 30 Everyday Foods That Cool "Inflammaging"...

With simple ways to start incorporating them into your routine.

Because getting older is inevitable. But how well you age may be more within your influence than you think.
To your health,

People-pleasing. Perfectionism. Overpreparing. Being the one everyone can count on?

We call it being responsible, capable, high functioning…

But for women, ADHD can hide in plain sight for decades! (And it does not look like the stereotypical hyperactive child.)

In today’s podcast we are hearing from Dr. Jolene Brighten. She’s a board-certified naturopathic endocrinologist, women’s hormone expert, educator, and bestselling author whose work focuses on helping women better understand the relationship between their hormones, brain, and overall health.

She shared that an estimated 50 to 75% of women with ADHD reach adulthood before anyone recognizes it, because we got so good at hiding it.

Behind the mask, it can look like running your to-do list before your feet hit the floor. Interrupting mid-sentence so the thought doesn’t vanish. Or lying awake replaying something someone said twenty years ago.

In this episode, we get into:

 • Why so many girls with ADHD were labeled anxious instead
 • How perimenopause can look like ADHD (and how to tell the difference)
 • The 20-minute habit that can sharpen your focus for hours
 • What to say when you bring this up and get brushed off
Today's episode is an important conversation for women to hear and may finally give you some answers.

Hi from South Africa! I'm currently here as part of some special projects, one of which is the ORIGIN summit. I'm here on the ground with Zach Bush and his team and could not be more grateful for this experience.

Something I came to believe while making HEAL is that so much of healing happens in connection. That means connection with our own bodies, with each other, and with the earth that holds all of us.

This Saturday, I’m inviting you to practice that with people all over the world at the same moment. This is a virtual activation like no other.

ORIGIN is the moment we reclaim our birthright with a new narrative: humanity as a keystone species — not here to consume, but to co-create with Mother Earth, so that every footprint can increase the life force of our home.

Fifteen First Nations Elders will lead a prayer for Mother Earth. Then everyone watching, wherever they are, places their hands on the ground and shares an anthem together.

You don’t need to buy anything or know what to do. You just need a few minutes, a patch of earth, and the willingness to join people in every time zone choosing the same moment. According to the organizers, more than 7,000 communities have signed on, with over 275 public gatherings in 115 countries.

If you’re outside the US, that’s 8pm in London and 6am Sunday in Sydney.

The ORIGIN Global Broadcast

The moment sits at the center of a free, all-day online broadcast of ceremony, music and teachings. It includes live feeds from gatherings on four continents, from a sunrise on the beach in Byron Bay to a sunset ceremony on Glastonbury Tor. It starts at 9am PT, and you can drop in and out all day.

A few sessions I’d circle (all times PT):

Dr. Bruce Lipton, 10am: Evolution as cooperation and connection

Dr. Dean and Anne Ornish, 3:10pm: The innate nature of healing

Rev. Michael Beckwith, 3:35pm: Awakening the possible

Satish Kumar, 4pm: Soil, soul and society

Dr. Shamini Jain, 4:30pm: Exploring the vibrational nature of healing (more on her below)

Times may shift slightly on the day, so check the schedule before you tune in.

In addition, as part of the summit, they ask the question:

What happens when capital flows directly into the hands of those healing the Earth?

Origin is proud to support Project Biome and Farmer's Footprint, two organizations working at the forefront of regeneration, soil health and human wellbeing. They are both accelerating the transition toward regenerative agriculture that restores soil biology, strengthens local food systems and supports farming communities. Through Origin, they aim to amplify their work and help mobilize awareness, participation and resources toward a healthier future for people and planet. If you feel called to, you can learn more and donate here.

Tips To Prepare Your Body For Cold And Flu Season

Cold and flu season doesn't have to knock you sideways every year. This guide breaks down the surprising reasons your body is more vulnerable in winter and the practical steps you can take right now to fight back.

I'm an ER doctor and I've signed more death certificates for vaccinated flu patients this season than in my entire thirteen-year career combined. I don't give a f*ck that my colleagues don't want me saying it. The people trusting the shot are the ones dying in my ICU. I know how that sentence sounds. I know that no one in my profession wants me to say it in public. I am saying it anyway, because the people dying are the ones who trusted us the most, and they deserve the truth more than my colleagues deserve their comfort.
The flu mutated past this year's shot. And the patients filling my intensive care unit, the ones on ventilators, the ones whose families I am pulling into quiet rooms, got their flu shot in October and believed, right up until the end, that it was protecting them.
HOW THE SHOT ACTUALLY WORKS, AND HOW IT FAILED
Here is what almost no one understands about the flu shot, told plainly by someone who watches the consequences.
The vaccine is a prediction. Months before flu season, scientists decide which strains they think will circulate, and the shot is manufactured around that guess and locked in long before anyone knows what will actually arrive. Most years the guess is close enough to help. This year it was not. A strain called H3N2 subclade K picked up seven new mutations on the exact part of the virus the vaccine trains your body to recognize.
So the shot in your arm taught your immune system to fight a version of the flu that effectively no longer exists. When the real, mutated strain arrives, your body meets it with no memory, no head start, no advantage. In the way that actually matters, a vaccinated person this season is unvaccinated against the thing that is spreading.
A man came in last month. Sixty-eight. Vaccinated, and proud of it, he told me so while he could still talk. By the next morning he was intubated. His wife showed me the little bandaid still faintly on his upper arm from the October shot and asked me how this was possible. I did not have a gentle answer. The honest one, that the shot was built for the wrong virus and there is no antiviral that works this late, is not something you can say softly to a woman watching her husband die.
THE DETAIL I SEE IN ALL OF THEM
There is a detail I see now in case after case, and it has started to haunt me. The flu shot bandaid. Sometimes still on the arm. Sometimes the family is holding the pharmacy receipt. A small paper record of the responsible thing these people did, sitting beside a hospital bed where that responsible thing is failing in real time.
These are not careless patients. They are the careful ones. They are the people who get the oil changed on schedule and file their taxes early and never miss a vaccine. And this season, those are exactly the people dying, because they did the one thing they were told would protect them and it was built for a virus that changed its face before winter even started.
I have stopped feeling reassured when a patient tells me they got their shot. I used to factor it into my assessment, a vaccinated patient was a lower-risk patient. This year it tells me nothing. The sick ones got it. The dying ones got it. I have never admitted that out loud before, because of what it implies, and I am admitting it now because the silence is helping no one.
WHAT I SEE THAT THE PUBLIC DOESN'T
Here is what I have learned standing over these vaccinated patients who are dying anyway. The shot failed not because vaccines are useless, but because it can only ever prepare the body for one specific version of the virus, and the virus changed. Which means the entire strategy, this year, is built on a prediction that missed.
But the flu still enters the same way it always has. Through the nose. It lands on the nasal tissue and replicates in silence for two to four days before the first symptom, no matter what the vaccine thinks it recognizes. By the time my patients feel sick, it has been winning for days, and Tamiflu, the one antiviral, only helps in the first forty-eight hours, which almost nobody catches, because for the first two days they think it's nothing.
So the real window to stop the flu is not my emergency room, and it is not the vaccine that missed. It is the nose, at the very beginning, before the virus moves, at a place where it does not matter at all whether the shot matched the strain, because the shot is not what stops it there.
